During the rise of counter culture symbolized by hippies and flower power in the late 1960s, GRATEFUL DEAD became a symbol of the movement in San Francisco, the center of that movement . Dead Bear is a GRATEFUL DEAD It first appeared on the artwork for the album History of the Grateful Dead, Volume One ( Bear's Choice ). Originally they were nicknamed "Dancing Bears" and are still loved around the world today as mascot characters, but they have been designed with a unique hemp leaf pattern that is original to RIVER SIDE CULTURE .
The hemp leaf pattern is a hexagonal geometric design that has been used to decorate Buddhist statues since the Heian period. This pattern represents the wish for the healthy growth of children.
The brand's original body is made of 100% cotton with a 16/- finish that gives it a rough feel. The charcoal gray body color has been pigmented to give it a vintage feel.
